Resort At Squaw Creek Auction
In case you haven't heard, The Resort at Squaw Creek is going to be auctioning off at least 10 of the luxury condos in the hotel.
For those who don't know the history, The Resort at Squaw Creek went through a major remodel and conversion to a "Condo Hotel" in 2004-2005. At that time, the owner/developer updated all of the hotel rooms and sold them to individual owners. Most of the units sold, but there were a handful which remained in the hands of the owner/developer. Now, some of those units are going to be sold in an auction format.
"The Resort", as it's known by many locals, is a stunning property with fantastic ammenities. Personally I would rather stay at The Resort than stay at the Ritz Carlton at Northstar. I feel like the ammenities are more diverse with multiple restaurant options, an extensive year round pool and hot tub facility, direct chair access to Squaw Valley, a first class spa, a challenging Robert Trent Jones Jr. Championship golf course, and other fun options such as ice skating, dog sledding, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, sledding, and even fly fishing. The Resort was a recipient of the Conde Naste Top North American Ski Hotel Award in 2010.
There are a total of 17 units which will be auctioned. The units are either 1 or 2 bedrooms and 1 or 2 bathrooms, with resort style kitchens. All of the units have been luxuriously remodeled and include a fine furnishing package. The units have a great feel, with a warm combination of wood, paint, and carpet, granite counter tops, and slate tile. Most of the 2 bedroom units have a comfortable living space with a fireplace.
The auction will take place on Saturday, April 30th from noon to 1. The 1 bedroom units have opening bids starting at $135,000, and the 2 bedrooms start at $185,000. Previously, similar units have sold between $375k and $1 million. I've been told that the first ten units will be sold without reserve, while the remaining units will have an unpublished minimum reserve price.
