Truckee Awarded 'Most Well Rounded' Ski Town by Sunset Magazine
Are you looking for a well rounded ski town? According to Sunset Magazine, Truckee should be your destination. In a recent article where they awarded 10 different ski towns with titles ranging from "most charm" to "most food-focused", Truckee stood out for having something for everyone. The article simply touches on some of the highlights for each town, but let me touch on what I believe to be the top 5 reasons Truckee is THE BEST ski town:
1. It's easy to get to. Whether you live in Northern California and can jump on I80, or you live far away and have to get on a plane, you're in luck. I80 is an easy drive and Reno Airport is just 35 miles away.
2. An incredibly diverse set of ski resorts. Whether you want to learn to ski (Tahoe Donner or Northstar), hit the cruisers (Northstar or Squaw Valley), or try to compete with the pros (Squaw Valley), Truckee has a resort within 10 miles which can offer it to you. If it's just no nonsense skiing you want, head to Sugar Bowl or Alpine Meadows.
3. Diverse Restaurants. It's a must to fuel up before and after a day on the mountain. For a small town, Truckee has an assortment of great dining options. Pizza to Mexican food, Brew Pubs to date spots, Sushi to hamburgers, we've got options for all.
4. Tons of snow. The ski resorts along the Pacific Crest see some of the deepest snowfall in the country. Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Sugar Bowl all boast annual averages of over 500 inches.
5. Tons of sun. The weather in the Sierra's seems to be either Blizzard or sunshine. Those 500 inches of snow come in a hurry and are usually followed by blissful sunshine. If you're looking for a blue sky powder day, this is the place.
