Norm's article in this weeks Sierra Sun highlights all the upcoming spring events. Of course, it assumes that "spring" will actually get here. It just keeps snowing!!
Here are the highlighted events:
Thursday evening (May 26): “The Purple Party” at “Zano's Restaurant” is the kick off event for the American Cancer Society's “Relay for Life of Truckee-Tahoe” annual fundraiser. 5:30 to 8 p.m. Call Zoe Richards, 530-320-6982, or Katie Geresy 530-559-9124 for details. The actual “Relay for Life” will be held at the Truckee High School track on July 16-17.
This weekend: Saturday and Sunday (May 28, 29) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the “Truckee Home Building Show” (including the Regional Green Building Symposium, and Sierra Recreation Expo) at Truckee High School. Also Truckee Little League will hold its annual Rummage Sale over the Memorial Day weekend at the Truckee Donner Public Utility District parking lot on Donner Pass Road. Call 530-584-1142 for info and how you can contribute your “stuff.”
June 4 (Saturday): Both Tahoe City and Truckee will be holding their annual “Clean Up Days.” In Tahoe City, the bag pick-up (9 a.m.) and afternoon events will be at Commons Beach. In Truckee (Truckee Day), there will be various locations to pick up your bags, and the annual block party at Truckee Regional Park will begin at noon. Check www.truckeeday.org for info.
Saturday, June 11: Truckee Optimist Club's 6th Annual Brew Fest, Truckee Regional Park, from 1 to 5 p.m. Specialty brews from Northern California and Nevada breweries. Music by the “Dead Winter Carpenters.” Presale tickets $25, $30 at the gate. Call 530-582-9062 with questions or www.truckeeoptimist.com. Proceeds go directly to programs, sponsorships, grants and scholarships for the youth of the Truckee/Tahoe area.
Sunday, June 12, Truckee Duckee Derbee, 2 to 5 p.m. at River Ranch. The proceeds of this event go to the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. For info: www.hstt.org.
Sunday, June 19 (Father's Day): 2nd Annual Truckee Rib Fest will be held at Citizen's Bank Plaza from 1 to 6 p.m. According to Charlie Riley of Sears Hometown Store, last year's event sold out quickly so plans are being made for twice as many ribs and a great crowd. www.truckeeribfest.com. Proceeds of this event benefit the Truckee High School Athletic Booster Club.
Sunday, June 26: 3rd Annual Truckee Chili Cookoff, sponsored by Truckee Sunrise Rotary, will be held at Truckee Regional Park. For details go to www.truckeechilicookoff.org.
