The communities one first sees when they drive into the Lake Tahoe region from Northern California are those located on Donner Summit. The most popular of these areas is called Serene Lakes.
Serene Lakes is a spectacularly beautiful community located less than 3 miles from I-80. The community is tucked in the trees and surrounds two gorgeous mountain lakes, Lake Serene and Lake Dulzura. Serene Lakes attracts many people because it represents the purest mountain lifestyle of any community in Lake Tahoe. Tall trees, mountain lakes, an abundance of snow, and very little traffic are some of the most notable features. The community is also in close proximity (less than 2 miles) to Sugar Bowl, Boreal, and Soda Springs ski areas and is right at the boundary to the cross country ski trails of Royal George.
In the summertime families are known for basking in the summer sunshine on the Serene Lakes HOA beach and swimming and kayaking on the lakes (no motor boats are allowed). There is also easy access to mountain biking and hiking and dirt roads which lead to some more glorious mountain lakes such as Long Lake, Kidd Lake and Upper and Lower Cascade Lakes.
Homes in Serene Lakes start at $200,000, with the majority of the homes falling in the $400 to $900k price range.
